Animal Welfare Officer at the LIR
The Animal Welfare Officers at the LIR advise researchers on the application and implementation of their animal research projects and act as a link between the authorities and scientists. Another important task is to review these projects, taking into account the implementation of the so-called 3R principle.
This means that
animal experiments are to be replaced by alternative methods where possible (Replace).
the number of animals must be reduced to a minimum (Reduce).
the stress on the animals is to be reduced to an essential level (Refine) in compliance with all animal welfare regulations.
In addition, our animal welfare officers are the point of contact for questions relating to animal welfare and carry out local monitoring of animal experimentation and documentation at the LIR.
